Aircraft Noise

One of the principal reasons the earlier 4,000 house Maplecroft development was rejected was because the Gilston Estate is on the direct flightpath into Stansted.   The following picture shows the actual radar tracks of aircraft arriving at Stansted over a five-day period in April 2003.

Where is the last place you would want to put high-density housing? Run your mouse over the picture to see where Harlow North is.

NEW In February 2008, the National Air Traffic Service (NATS) issued proposals for a widespread rearrangement of flight paths in to and out of UK airports to reduce overflying of built-up areas (see http://www.consultation.nats.co.uk/ ).  These proposals should give a marked reduction in noise levels in the East Herts and West Essex settlements that are affected by air traffic using the easterly approach into Stansted.  Good news for the 'would be' developers of Harlow North, then?  Well not exactly - look at the second map below and, again, run your mouse over to see where the proposed development is.

Ropemaker Properties Limited have contrived statistics to show noise will not be a problem - but you make up your own mind. Lies ... damned lies ... and statistics?
